Heavy Metals in Baby Food

A 2021 Congressional report found toxic heavy metals (arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury) in baby foods from major brands. Rice-based products tend to have the highest levels.

Tip: Choose oat-based cereals over rice cereals. Vary grain sources. Look for brands that test for heavy metals.

Added Sugar & Babies

The WHO and AAP recommend zero added sugar for children under 2. Even "organic cane sugar" counts. Fruit purees naturally contain sugar, which is fine.

Check labels for: cane sugar, corn syrup, honey, fruit juice concentrate (used as sweetener).
